Once made primarily of wood, modern flutes are typically constructed of nickel-silver or a nearly pure silver alloy. The tone of a flute is produced by an airstream entering the head joint and causing vibrations throughout the body of the instrument.

The entire line of Jean Baptiste flutes feature newly-designed head joints, resulting in instruments that produce rich, clear tone with little effort. They’re perfect instruments for even the most novice of players. Both the FL290 and FL309 Flutes feature an offset G key for players with smaller hands, closed-hole keys and a C foot. The FL309’s headjoint produces a slightly darker tone, while the flute also features a split E key to help seamlessly play the troublesome High E in tune. The FLO299 is designed for more advanced players, featuring an inline G key, open-hole keys and a B foot joint that increases the range of the instrument.
